Gweneth Lynn Blumenauer, 73, of New Philadelphia passed away at her home on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 after a lengthy battle with Crohn’s disease. Born on January 15, 1948 in Dover, she was the oldest child of the late Wayne “Bud” Thomas and Grace Miller Thomas.
Gwen was a 1966 graduate of Dover High School where she made lifelong friends. Gwen met and married the love of her life and best friend, Carl Blumenauer, in September 1968. She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was Lutheran by faith.
Those who knew Gwen knew how much she loved animals. She and Carl welcomed many rescued animals into their home over the years including several retired racing greyhounds. They enjoyed spending time with their pups and fellow greyhound lovers at Mountain Hounds events each year. A book was never far from Gwen’s hand, as an avid reader, she loved curling up with a good book and a pup or two by her side. She shared her love of music with her children and grandchildren introducing them to her favorite songs and artists at an early age. Gwen loved attending band shows and watching her grandchildren perform in the band. She also loved to dance. Gwen had many friends from various times in her life who will never forget her wit, tenacity and unwavering love for them.
She will be deeply missed by her surviving family which includes her husband, Carl E. Blumenauer; two children, Kimberli Knoll and Carl (Debbie) Blumenauer; four grandchildren, Jacob, Alex, Skylar and Nathan; and brother and sister-in law, Wayne and Judy Thomas and their two sons, Matthew and Nathan.
Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. There are no services or calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that any donations be made in Gwen’s name to your church, Community Hospice Truman House, or to the First Christian Church, Dover.
