Harley E. Krantz, age 95, of New Philadelphia, and a long-time resident of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, October 25, 2010.
Born, July 17, 1915, in Dover Township, he was a son of the late Charles and Barbara Spritzenbach Krantz. Harley attended Wooster Highway School, and, on October 17, 1936, married Kathryn G. Reed. The couple celebrated their seventy-fourth wedding anniversary just a few short days ago. Harley was employed by the Marsh Lumber Co. in Dover for forty-four years, retiring in 1980. A faithful, prayerful man, Harley was also a licensed pastor for the Church of God, and attended the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover.
Harley loved the outdoors, and in his younger days enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also raised and trained beagles. In later years, he found joy in watching the birds around his home.
In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he will be sadly missed by his daughter, Norma (Melvin) Koppes of Uhrichsville; five grandchildren, Kathy Shaver of Uhrichsville, Sharon (Leroy) Chambers of Dennison, Rhonda (Mark) Davis of Tuscarawas, Melanie (Lee) Kohli of Winesburg, and Bill (Jackie) Sterling of Dennison; seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy (Anna) Shaver, Barry (Jennifer) Chambers, Amanda (Frank) Sanchez, Carly (Jeff) Positano, Keith (Melissa) Chambers, Tyler Waters and Dylan Sterling; eight great-great-grandchildren, Angelina Mendez, Jannelle Chambers, Mackena Shaver, Brennan Shaver, Macey Chambers, Madelynn Chambers, Julliana Sanchez and Riley Positano; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Harley was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Krantz; and by a step-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 27, at 1 p.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover with Pastor Rodney Phillips of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dennison and Pastor Douglas Downs of the Rush Community Church of the Nazarene in Uhrichsville officiating. Burial will be in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
