Harold B. Hertzig

Harold B. Hertzig, 97, of Lexington, Ohio and formerly of Dover, Ohio and Winter Haven, Florida died Sunday, April 23, 2006 in the Lexington Court Nursing Home at Lexington.

Harold was the owner and operator of the Valley Farm Supply in Dover having retired in 1974 after 45 years of service.

Born March 28, 1909 in Dover, Ohio he was a son of the late Emmett and Cora Dummermuth Hertzig.

He attended the United Methodist Church of the Cross in Lexington and was a member of the Beamer United Methodist Church in Winter Haven. He was also a member of Dover and Winter Haven Lions Club. Harold raised and showed prized Polled Herfords and rabbits. He enjoyed shuffleboard, playing euchre, gardening, traveling and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.

Harold was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Hertzig who died on November 12, 1968, and his second wife, Marilyn Hertzig who died on April 29, 2004.

He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Steven) Rose of Lexington; two step daughters, Carol (Bill) Gerber of New Philadelphia and Peggy (Larry) Hodkinson of Merrimac, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Brian, Heather and Erich; five step grandchildren, Thad, Scott, Debbie, Jay and Christy; two great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by an infant sister.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover with Rev. Denise Marikis officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the burial a reception will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends can call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
