Harold G. Steel

Harold G. Steel, 76, of Dover went to be with our Lord on Monday, May 19, 2008, in his home after suffering from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

Born October 26, 1931, in Canton, Ohio, he was the son of the late James and Hazel Strawn Steel. He married the love of his life, Lucille Mast Steel, on January 18, 1953. Together they have four children.

Harold was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a tireless worker, being very dedicated to his farming operation. He and his family operated Steel's Farm Dairy where they bottled and delivered milk to the Dover community until 1974. Harold and his family
continued to operate the dairy farm. Even after his retirement in 1994, Harold still enjoyed working with his sons on the farm. He dearly loved his children and was always supportive of their endeavors and proud to see them succeed. He encouraged and enjoyed the musical talents of his family and often sang with
Lucille. His whole family was extremely important to him, especially his ten grandchildren, who knew him affectionately as "Pa."

He was a member of the Indian Meadow's Church of God in Dover. He served on the Tuscarawas County Farm Service Agency Board for 15 years. He was also a member of the Brandywine Grange for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; two sons, Terry (wife, Colleen) Steel and John (wife, Paula) Steel, both of Dover; two daughters, Sally (husband, Daryl) Duncan of Warsaw, Ohio and Melanie (husband, Steve) Schmechel of Johnstown, Ohio; his ten grandchildren, Stacie, Stephanie, and Jaden Steel of Dover, Nathan and Clinton Steel also of Dover, Neil, Drew and Rachel Duncan of Warsaw, Ohio, and Ryan and Sarah Schmechel of Johnstown, Ohio; his brother-in-law, R. Wood Hachenbracht of Arkansas; as well as two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister; Marjorie Hachenbracht.

A celebration of Harold's life will take place at the Indian Meadows Church of God in Dover on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 11:00 am with Pastor Louise Worsham officiating. Interment will follow at Union Hill Cemetery in Sugarcreek. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory in Dover on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Those wishing to do so may share a memory with the family by visiting the funeral home's website.
