Harold L. Limbacher, 88, died Friday, February 17, 2006, in Park Village Assisted Living in Dover after a period of declining health.
Harold was born May 9, 1917 in Franklin Township, the son of the late Walter L. and Ora E. Schlemmer Limbacher.
He lived most of his life in the Strasburg area and attended Mt. Healthy and North American one-room schools in Franklin Township. He retired in 1980 from Hardy Coal Co. at Flushing where he worked as a coal miner. He loved the outdoors and was often seen riding on his red tractor and plowing gardens for friends and relatives. In the spring he was always eager to start planting his garden. With spring came baseball, and Harold loved following the Cleveland Indians.
During World War II, Harold served his country honorably in the United States Army, including three years in Germany and France.
He was a member of St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg and a life member of the Charles Hofer Post of the Strasburg American Legion.
Survivors include a brother John Limbacher of Bolivar and a sister, Dorothy Rummes of Dover, sisters-in-laws, Vera Limbacher of Dover and Barbara Limbacher of Strasburg, and a brother-in-law William McMann of New Philadelphia, a special niece and care giver Debra (Rich) Stutzman of New Philadelphia, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Cathryn Baum Limbacher, in 1980; a daughter Carolyn Sue Limbacher, two brothers, Walter and Ben, a sister Clara Limbacher McMann and an infant sister Alta Limbacher.
Friends are invited to call Monday, Feb. 20 from 6 to 8 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Strasburg. Rev. Dana Keirstead will officiate at Harold�(TM)s funeral service, Tuesday Feb. 21 at 11 am in St. John United Church of Christ with viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg, where military rites will be presented by the Strasburg American Legion. Following committal a lunch will be served in the St. John UCC social hall.
