Harold Mennom

September 13, 1911 — February 18, 2001

Harold Mennom, 89, of 2012 Delaware Drive S.E., New Philadelphia, Ohio and formerly of Columbia died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at the Hennis Care Centre following a brief illness.

He retired as a maintenance employee for the former Hart�(TM)s Family Center in New Philadelphia. He was a former owner/operator of the former Garver Bros. Store in Strasburg where he worked for 31 years.

Born September 13, 1911 in South Moor, England, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Hadley Mennom.

He was a 67 yr. Member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church where he was a former trustee, Sunday Schoolteacher, choir member and served on numerous committees. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men. He also attended the Springdale Friends Church at Cadiz while camping. Harold was a 1929 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. He was a S/Sgt.during World War II while serving in the US Army having been a POW in Stalag 4 B in Germany. He enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a 30 yr. Permanent camper at Sally Buffalo Park in Cadiz. He has traveled to all 50 states, all provinces in Canada and been to Europe on three different occasions.

Harold is survived by his wife Ruth Kaiser Mennom with whom he would have celebrated 68 years of marriage on July 22.

He is also survived by one sister, Sarah Mast of Orrville; two nieces Lillian (Frank) Shepherd and Doreen (Leo) Gundy both of New Philadelphia. Four nephews Dr. Linn Mast of Medina, Eric Mast of Orrville, Randy Mast of Anchorage, Kentucky, and Kevin Mast of Columbus along with several great nieces and nephews and one great great niece.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Daniel Mennom.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at 11:00 AM in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Court officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg where the Chas. Hofer Post of the American Legion will conduct military graveside services. A meal will follow services in the church social hall. Friends may call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM and at the church one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Strasburg United Methodist Church, Hospice of Tuscarawas County, or the Salvation Army.
