Harry D. ''Dan'' Ford

Harry D. “Dan” Ford, 64, of Newcomerstown, and a longtime resident of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, October 17, 2002 in Union Hospital after a brief illness.

Born February 20, 1938 at Moorefield, Ohio, he was the son of Iva Persons Ford of New Philadelphia and the late Lloyd ''Raymond'' Ford.

A music enthusiast, Dan was a well-known local recording artist and was lead singer for a former popular area band “Night Life”.

He spent many years working as an antique dealer and enjoyed traveling and working antique shows. He especially liked being outdoors and fishing.

Most of all, Dan loved his family. He was a caring husband and father, and his favorite time was spent entertaining his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Derrlyn Hess Ford, whom he wed on May 27, 1962.

Other survivors include: five children; Eric Ford of Newcomerstown, Jacquelyn Smallwood of Newcomerstown, Starla & Don Watson of Newcomerstown, Kimberly Ford of New Phila., and Kurt Ford of Newcomerstown, eight grandchildren; Melissa Winkler, Kimberly Perez, Eric Ford, Jr., Summer Myers, Danielle Ford, Desiree Watson, Holly Watson, and Jared Smallwood, great grandson; Carlos Ortiz, 3 sisters and a brother; Treva & Richard Valentine of New Phila., Doris & Joe Leggett of New Phila, Gerald & Judy Ford of New Phila., and Starla & Mike Sabota of Cadiz, many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Dan was preceded in death by a sister, Ima Jean Ford, and a brother John “Jack” Ford.

Due to the current renovations at the Toland-Herzig location in New Philadelphia, funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, at 11:00am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Phil Strosnider officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1-4pm.
