Harvey F. Huffman

Harvey F. Huffman, 74, of 4482 Strasburg-Dundee Rd., Strasburg, Ohio died suddenly Thursday, January 4, 2001.

A son of the late Harry E. and Edna R. Deuber Huffman, he was born April 21, 1926 at Strasburg. He was a life resident of the Strasburg area.

He had worked as a self-employed carpenter for many years, constructing a number of homes in the area with partners Roy Harrold and later Deb Van Fossen. He was a life member of the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg where he had served several terms as a church council member. He was active in various capacities at the church and was a member and treasurer of the church�(TM)s Friendship Sunday school class. A 1944 graduate of Strasburg High School, he served with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was an active member of the Charles Hofer Post of the American Legion at Strasburg and this past fall was honored for 50 years of continuous membership. As a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, he participated in several out-of-state trips, supervising and working with youth from St. John United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, the former Betty Lou Wallick, whom he married Oct. 31, 1948; a son and daughter in law, Rex A. and Karen Huffman of New Philadelphia; a daughter and son in law, Corrinne and John K. Gerber of Strasburg; two granddaughters, Laurie and Angela Gerber, both of Strasburg; a brother and sister in law Glen and Marcia Huffman of Wooster; his mother in law, Mrs. Bryan (Erdine) Wallick of Dover; brother in law and sister in law, Richard and Madeline Wallick of Dover; a numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 8, 2001 at 11:00 AM in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Rev. Gerald Schuessler officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg where the Chas. Hofer Post of the American Legion will conduct military graveside services. Calling Hours are Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Strasburg and Monday one hour prior to services in the church.
