Hazel M. Schoelles, 86, of 120 Howard Drive, Dover, Ohio died Monday evening, January 14, 2008 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
Hazel was a sales employee for the former Schwartz Klines Department Stores in Dover and New Philadelphia for many years. She will always be remembered for her pleasant smile.
Born August 27, 1921 in New Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Prysi) Pfouts.
She was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ in Dover. She was also a member of the Lambda Chapter of the Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority. A 1939 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Hazel served in the U.S. Navy (Waves) during World War II.
She enjoyed her longtime friendship with her friends in her bridge club where she was a member for over forty years. She loved spending time with her grandsons. Her cooking and baking will be missed by her family and her friends.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dale F. Schoelles. He died September 17, 2000. She was also preceded by her son, Gregory D. Schoelles along with her twin sister, Helen Robson and her other three sisters, Dorothy Wenger, Martha Stroup, and Eunice Everett.
She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Pamela and David Shaffer of Dover and her grandsons, Scott and Matthew Shaffer along with her nieces, nephews, and brother in law.
A funeral service celebrating Hazels life will be held Friday, January 18, 2008 at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Rev. Michael Lowry officiating. Interment will be alongside her husband in the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow in the St. Johns UCC Fellowship Hall. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 pm.
