Hazel “Sis” M. Kreis, 91, formerly of Maple Ave. N.W., Strasburg died Saturday evening, August 1, 2009 in the New Dawn Retirement Center at Dover lovingly surrounded by her family.
Sis was a former employee of U.S. Ceramic at East Sparta. She also formerly worked at Bub�(TM)s Carryout and the former Gephart and Churchill Markets in Strasburg.
Born May 27, 1918 in Strasburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Haswell) Rieger.
She was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and it�(TM)s Otterbein Sunday School class. She enjoyed attending the Seasoned Seniors activities and loved playing cards and games with her friends, “The Golden Girls.” During her children�(TM)s school years, she was active in the Strasburg Band Boosters. She was a 1936 graduate of Strasburg Franklin High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Kreis who died September 16, 1989. She was also preceded by her daughter, Carol Gessner, a sister, Jane Johns, and two brothers, Bud and Jim Rieger.
“Sis” is survived by two daughters, Connie (husband, Terry) Zingery of New Philadelphia and Susie (husband, Rock) VanFossen of Strasburg; a son in law, George Gessner of Strasburg; six grandchildren, Tara (husband, Bob) Preston of New Philadelphia, Matt (wife Jen) Zingery of Dublin, Jeff (wife, Cindy) Gessner of Dover, Greg Gessner of Strasburg and friend, Linda Yoder, Jamie (husband, Kevin) Coston of Cincinnati, Ty (wife, Nathalie) VanFossen of Charlotte, North Carolina; twelve great grandchildren;two brothers, Charles "Babe" (wife, Helen) Rieger of Alliance and Jack (wife, Pat) Rieger of Atwood Glens; a sister in law, Corrine Rieger of Strasburg and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services celebrating Sis�(TM)s life will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Noon in the Strasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Lynda Masters officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center at Dover. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10am until noon.
