Helen Adair Davis, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord,
December 30th, 2008 following complications to a brief illness.
She was born September 17, 1916 in Louisville, Kentucky to
Charles and Anna {Prescott} Williams, the youngest of three children.
During the war, she worked at an aircraft plant in Louisville as a military concierge, chauffeuring the personnel that came to inspect and visit. She also worked in family businesses with her mother and sister.
She married her husband, Paul Forrest Davis on February 24th, 1944 and
celebrated fifty-two wonderful years together until he passed in 1996.
Vivacious and endearing, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took great joy in her family and never hesitated to shower them with love and affection. She had a sweet spirit, with a natural sense of class and elegance. Adair enjoyed music, especially singing tender harmonies to her favorite hymns and playing the piano by ear. She carved out a great legacy of faith and was proud that her children and grandchildren had come to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
Adair was an active member of First Christian Church, in New Philadelphia, becoming a member shortly after moving to Dover in 1993.
In addition to her parents and husband, Adair was preceeded in death by her brother Charles Richard Williams, sister Cora Virginia Hardin, brother-in-law George Franklin Davis, sister-in-law Lena Davis, newphew Jack Riedling, and niece Sharon-Ann Hardin.
She is survived by her three children, Darlyn Davis-Amodio, Dean and Lora Davis, and Dale and Patricia Davis; ten grandchildren, Paul and wife Nikki, Tami, Adair, Josh and wife Andrea, Marshall and wife Sara, Lesley and husband Darnell, Katie and husband Brian, Nick, Corey, and Carly; eight great-grandchildren; two nephews Fred Riedling and Bill Hardin; and many loving great-nieces and nephews also survive her. She is also survived by three of her close friends Dorothy Ripple, Dorthy Mills, and Lola Gibbs, her sunday school class and her church family.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 3rd at 4:00pm at First Christian Church in New Philadelphia, at the corner of 3rd and High. Family visitation will be one hour prior, and a fellowship dinner will be served afterwards. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover are handling arrangements.
