Helen E. Maust, 90, of West Lafayette, Ohio and a former New Philadelphia resident died Wednesday, April 1, 2009 in Coshocton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Helen was a retired cook having worked at the former Corner Tavern at New Philadelphia for over twenty years.
Born October 29, 1918 in Bealsville, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (Lancaster) Nickeson.
Helen was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia. She was also active in the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens and was a 1936 graduate of Bealsville High School. Helen enjoyed reading and working Circle puzzles. She also like listening to cassette tapes given to her by her church. She loved going to social events and taking rides with her friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna (husband, Jack) Hensley of New Philadelphia and Sandra Maust of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a son, Ron (wife, Geraldine) Maust of West Lafayette; four grandchildren, Tommy (Heather) Maust and Tammy (Lenard) Davidson both of West Lafayette, Laura (Chuck) Bernard and Carl (Lisa) Hensley both of New Philadelphia and twelve great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alonzo and James Nickeson and seven sisters, Louise Nickeson, Elizabeth, Zelphia Ritaverta, Bessie Gray, Clara McCarty, Evelyn Reeves, and Rosetta Barnes.
A funeral service celebrating Helen's life will be held Friday, April 3, 2009 at 2pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia with Dr. Steven R. Bailey officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park in New Phila with a reception to follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard in Dover. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from noon until 2pm.
