Helen J. Hafner

Helen J. Hafner, 88, of Strasburg died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at the Hennis Care Centre, surrounded by her loving family.

Born February 15, 1913 in Dover she was a daughter of the late Joseph B. and Katherine E. Beitzel Wernke.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg, and was a 1930 graduate of Strasburg High School. Helen had devoted her life to her family, church, school and community. She had served as PTA President, member of the former Easter Seals Board, coordinated the UNICEF fund drive for Strasburg, active member of the former Strasburg Dramatic Club and served as a poll worker for the Board of Elections. She was an avid Strasburg basketball fan, having had season tickets for over thirty years.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Walter J. Hafner who died on February 2, 1996.

She is survived by three daughters: Sue and William Rieger of Strasburg
Janie and Greg Miller of New Philadelphia
Julie Hafner of New York City

Son: Terry and Connie Zingery of New Philadelphia

Sister: Ruby J. Duncan of Beach City

She was also preceded in death by a sister: Shirley J. Feller

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at 11:00 am in the St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg with Pastor Allen Bergmann officiating. Interment will be in the Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Strasburg on Friday from 6-9 pm.
