Helen J. Smith

Helen J. Smith, 67, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, July 1, 2001 in the Hennis Care Centre following a brief illness.

Helen was an employee of the former Alsco Company in Sugarcreek until it�(TM)s closing.

Born August 13, 1933 in Lisbon, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Vechione Battalio.

She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking and was an avid sports enthusiast.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. “Smitty” Smith who died August 31, 1998.

She is survived by her daughter and son in law Darlene (John) Dotto of New Philadelphia. Two granddaughters, Michelle and Lisa Dotto who are both students at the Univ. of Toledo.

Six sisters and three brothers Lena Callahan of Salem; Josephine Batcha of Boca Raton, Florida; Phyllis (Donald) Garner, Mary Marinelli, Tony (Mary Jane) Battalio, Tom Battalio, and Albert Battalio all of New Philadelphia; Rose (Frank) Chini of Dennison; and Angie (Frank) Festi of Dover along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and John Battalio.

A memorial mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 5, 2001 at 11:00 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Cremation will take place with inurnment in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. The family will receive friends at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover on Thursday from 9:30 �" 10:45 am.
