Henry R. "Hank" Deetz

Henry R. "Hank" Deetz, 91, of Dover died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in his home surrounded by his loving family.



Born August 11, 1924 in Shanesville, Ohio he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Clara Shutt Deetz. Hank was also preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.



Hank proudly served his country with the United States Army during WW II from 1943 until 1946. Following his military duty, he received his undergraduate degree from Kent State University and graduated from the Ohio State University Dental School in 1956. He opened his dental office in Dover and served his community for 40 years, retiring in 1996. He was a faithful and active member of the First Moravian Church in Dover where he served as a Trustee and Diener, and was also a member of the Tuscarawas Lodge #59 F & AM in Dover. Hank enjoyed growing roses and excelled at making jewelry, having made wedding rings for his children and necklaces and pendants for the grandchildren. He loved going on vacations, touring civil war battle sites and spending time with his family.



A wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather, Hank will be sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Mary Lou Arbogast Deetz whom he married on March 10, 1957; children, Kathy (Robin) Kollman of Macedonia, Kristy Deetz and husband, Edward Risden of Wisconsin, Tim (Shauna) Deetz of New Philadelphia, Elisabeth Deetz and Julie (Eric) Pfeiffer both of Dover; brothers, Galen (Jan) Deetz of Canton, Clayton (Jean) Deetz of Arizona; sister, Ruth (Harry) Gerber of Walnut Creek; nine grandchildren and one great grandson.



Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 28 at 11:00 am in the First Moravian Church at Dover with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Interment will be at the Dover Burial Park where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Sunday from 2-4 pm with masonic services starting at 1:45.
