Henry D. Troyer, age 96, of Navarre, passed away Friday, January 24, 2025, in Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia.
Born August 3, 1928, in Baltic, he was the son of the late David A. and Lydia (Shetler) Troyer. Henry attended school in Baltic and was employed by the Shepler-Moomaw Brickworks in Sugarcreek. He later went to work for Sugarcreek’s Andreas Furniture, from which he retired after many years of service. Henry was hard-working and diligent all of his life. He married the former Anna Mullet on November 20, 1952. The couple had seven children and shared nearly 71 years of marriage before Anna’s passing on June 11, 2023.
Henry was a kind and gentle soul and was always helpful. He enjoyed gardening and was a loving father who liked visiting his large family; sometimes that involved travel, something he also enjoyed. Henry was a faithful member of Dover Alliance Church.
He is survived by his children, Marlene (Royce) Troyer of Sugarcreek, Marcia (Rick) Stahn of Navarre, Marla (Todd) Frey of Elverson, Pennsylvania, Melanie (Kevin) Oswald of Berlin, Marilyn (Allen) Andrews of Massillon and Michelle (Greg) Harstine of New Philadelphia; his 16 grandchildren; his 23 great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Alma, Evelyn and Lovina Troyer; and his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, and his beloved wife, Anna, Henry was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cynthia; his grandson, Drew Oswald; his son-in-law, Dale Hostetler; and his seven siblings - Henry was the last of his generational family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 28, 5 - 7 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 140 S. Bodmer Ave., Strasburg. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 11 a.m. in the Dover Alliance Church; Henry’s grandson-in-law, Ed Kramer and Pastor Bruce Sexton will officiate. Family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday morning. Henry’s church family will host a meal immediately after the funeral, and burial will be private later in Strasburg’s Grandview Union Cemetery.
Donations in Henry’s memory may be made to Dover Alliance Church, 228 E. Third St., Dover, Ohio 44622, or Ohio’s Hospice Truman House, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
