Herbert A. Bambeck, age 87, of Dover died peacefully Friday, July 26, 2013 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born July 14, 1926, the son of the late August and Eda (Harper) Bambeck, he had the distinction of livng his entire life on his beloved farm; sharing 60 years with his wife, Carol, who survives.

Graduating as Salutatorian of Dover High Class of 1944, Bambeck began his auction career at the age of 21 in 1947, retiring in 1988 due to ill health.

Community service includes 30 years as Bank Director for the succession of National Bank/Peoples National Bank/BankOne and 16 years on the Board of Trustees at Union Hospital. He sold the livestock auction at the Tuscarawas County Fair and later the dairy sale for many years.

Professionally, he was a lifetime member of the Ohio Auctioneers Association, serving as President. He was very proud of being elected to the Ohio Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 2009.

He had the honor of serving a term on the National Auctioneers Association board and several terms on the governor appointed Ohio Auction Commission.

He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Dover Elks.

An avid hunter, he traveled to northern Michigan annually for 30 years with his bear hunting buddies.

Bambeck Auctioneers, Inc., the business he started, continues with sons Paul (Ann) Bambeck and David (Susie) Bambeck. In addition, his farming operation is managed by son-in-law Jerry (Jane) Brown.

He was very proud of his grandchildren: John, Jake, and twins Lydia and Megan Bambeck. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Bambeck and sister, Viola Fronk.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 beginning at 10am. A private graveside service will be held in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. At Herb's request, there will be no public visitation at the funeral home or the church.
