Herbert Dean Huth, “Herb, Honey, Dad, Pop, The Bicycle Man, #1 Steeler Fan,”80 years old, went home to be with his heavenly Father, Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton.
Herb was born September 2, 1942 at Union Hospital in Dover to Violet Mae(Wright) and Walter Dean Huth. Herb is survived by his soulmate, Judith A. "Judy" (Smallwood) Huth, with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 9, 2023, as well as many more years of being together. His children include Lisa Huth of Massillon, Richard Huth of New Philadelphia, and Mindi (Bob) Speer of New Franklin. His grandchildren include Collin, Kyle (Sydney), Vince, Logan (Hannah), Kaleigh, Sydney, and one great-grandson, Theo. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Saunier of Canton, two sisters-in-law, Dixie Lewis and Brenda Peoples, and several nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by his parents, sister Maxine Fisk, niece Keri Eberhardt, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Fisk, David Peoples, and Ken Lewis.
Herb played football, basketball, and participated in track while at Strasburg High School. He owned and operated Herb’s Bicycle Shop in Strasburg for almost 70 years. He had 14 jobs in Strasburg between the ages of 12 and 18, and then went to work for the Timken Roller Bearing Co., ultimately retiring from there after 35 years. He was an avid sports fan, especially for the Steelers, the NBA, and, of course, Strasburg. He had no greater enjoyment than supporting his children and grandkids in all their activities. He also enjoyed fishing, bicycling, and anything that involved his family.
Herb and Judy’s love affair began at the First Church of God in New Philadelphia when the couple were in high school. He served on the Care Committee at his church, Forty Corners Church of God in Massillon.
Services will be held Wednesday, August 16, at 11 a.m., at Forty Corners Church of God, 3474 Beaumont Ave. NW, Massillon, with Reverend Randy Shafer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 15, 5 - 8 pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 803 North Wooster Ave., Dover, and Wednesday, 10 - 11 am, at the church.
