Hilda L. Brokaw

July 19, 1928 — March 2, 2004

Loving mother and grandmother Hilda L. Brokaw, 75, of Medina, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in the Medina Meadows Nursing Facility after a brief illness. She had been a resident of New Philadelphia for over twenty years.

Born July 19, 1928 at Tippecanoe, Hilda was the daughter of the late James Earl and Clara Madge Hunt Smith.

Before illness forced her to move to Medina to be close to her family, Hilda had been an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah(TM)s Witnesses at New Philadelphia.

She had many talents and especially excelled in those activities that involved the use of needle and thread. For years Hilda had quilted, crocheted and sewed in her spare time, giving away much of her work to friends and family members.

Her distinct tastes and appreciation of others craftsmanship led to her unique collection of porcelain dolls, cow figurines of many types and sizes as well as a variety of decorative apple collectibles which helped to accent her home.

Hilda is survived by a daughter Lori Ann (Mark) Bassett of Medina. She was also be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Larry Ross, Jr. and Lindsey Ross of Medina. Sisters Nellie Ourant of Freeport and Alma Faye Luyster of Tippecanoe also survive.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Harding and Clara Phillips.

A service celebrating Hilda(TM)s life will be conducted Saturday, March 6, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, 246 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, with David Vierheller officiating.
