Hope E. Burkey

Hope E. Burkey, 82, of Dover died Wednesday morning, May 26, 2010 in her home following a brief illness.

Born May 12, 1928 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Agosti) Franz.

Hope was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover where she often volunteered in the school cafeteria and was active in the St. Joseph Seniors. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband Junior Burkey who died December 5, 1985. She is survived by three daughters, Ann (husband, Bruce) Anderson of Enon, Ohio, Sue (husband, John) Long of Pearl, Mississippi, and Lara Jane Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada; one son, Michael (wife, Maria) Burkey of Dover; one brother, Richard (wife, Roz) Franz of Indiana; six grandchildren, Michael Anderson, Amanda Parrish, Elizabeth (Ryan) Steele, Nathan Lewis, Michele and Mitchel Burkey and two great grandchildren, Chase and Cody. In addition, she is survived by her special cousins, John and Sue Hoopingarner and their children, Scott (Abbey) Hoopingarner and Kate Hoopingarner.

In addition to her husband and parents, Hope was preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Long; a brother, Michael Franz, a sister and a special brother in law, Helen and Fred Beck.

At Hope�(TM)s request, cremation will take place and a memorial mass will be held Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 10 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover with Msgr. George Schlegel officiating. She will be laid to rest at a later date beside her husband, Junior at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. A reception will follow the mass in the Parish Hall at St. Joseph�(TM)s.
