Howard J. Mann, 79, of Dover, died Sunday, May 16, 2004 in Union Hospital.

For forty years Howard drove truck for Lee Frieghtline. He and his family also owned and operated the former Mann�(TM)s Union 76 Station that was on the corner of West Slingluff and North Wooster Avenues in Dover, for nearly twenty years.

Born February 16, 1925 at Dover, he was the son of the late Elmer and Margaret Swonger Mann.

Howard was a tireless worker, but in his spare time enjoyed gardening and working on cars.

He honorably served his country as a member of the Army during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and was involved in the European-African Middle Eastern Theater and the Campaign of Italy.

Howard is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Hall, whom he wed on December 15, 1945.

Other survivors include: a son, Tom (Natalie) Mann of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Brock, Tammi, Bobbie Jo, Jamie, Carolyn, Thomas and Scott; five great grandchildren, Caleb, Katelin, Raymond, Garrett and Connor; brothers and sisters, Harry (Norma) Mann of Dover, Stanley (Eleanor) Mann of Dover, John (Judy) Mann of Alliance, Doris Littleton, Arlene Rex, Clara Caddell all of East Sparta and Hilda Mann of Dover.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by a son, Jim.

Private military graveside services will be conducted by the Dover VFW on Wednesday in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens at Dover.
