Iona M. Crites

Iona M. Crites of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and formerly of Dover, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011. She was 84 years old.

Born May 14, 1926, in Dover, she was the daughter of the late Clifford and Helen Kerr Smith. Iona graduated from Dover High School. During her high school years and after graduation, Iona was employed by the Goshen Dairy, and later by a local savings and loan company.

She married Warren Crites in 1948 and the couple enjoyed fifty-eight happy years together before Warren�s passing in 2006. Iona reared a family, volunteered at church, and was an accomplished seamstress, artist, and cook. Her greatest joy was found spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed.

Iona is survived by her two children, Brenda L. (husband, Jeffrey) Reagan of Virginia, and Alan W. (wife, Carol) Crites of California; three grandchildren, Elizabeth (husband, Andreas) Jansson, Linda Crites (husband, Chris) Murphy, and Eric (wife, Diane) Crites; one great grandchild, Jakob.


In addition to her parents and her husband, Warren, she was preceded in death by a brother, Vey Smith.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Dover Burial Park, with Pastor Donald L. Rice, Jr. of Grace Lutheran Church in Dover officiating. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
