Irene E. Baker, 91, of Dover, Ohio died Sunday, March 6, 2005 in Park Village Assisted Living at Dover following a short illness.
Born July 17, 1913 at Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William and Estella McPherson Orr. On March 16, 1935, she married Harold Baker, who died November 1984. Irene was cofounder and Vice President of Baker Hi-Way Express in Dover.
Favorite times for Irene always included old friends and family. She especially liked to read cookbooks. A day brightener would be any day a child, grandchild, or great grandchild would stop and chat or play a game of cards or bring the dogs, Brutus and Cloe for a visit.
Irene is survived by her son, Harold “Butch” (Barbara) Baker and daughter, Shirley (William) Brug both of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Todd (Rhonda) Baker of New Philadelphia, Tracy Baker of Dover, Patrick (Bridgid) Brug of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Tiffany (Dwayne) Shepherd of New Philadelphia; five great grandchildren, Kelsie and Kyla of Dover; Elizabeth, Mary, and Rebecca of Los Alamos, New Mexico; two sisters, Sylvia Miller of St. Petersburg, Florida and Norma Avon of Stone Creek;
In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by three brothers, William Jr., Wilbur, and John Orr and three sisters, Mary Shane, Leona Orr, and Ella Louise Pompey and one great granddaughter, Krisie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 1:30 pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover with Revs. William Haggis and Marlin Drake officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday (today) from 5-8 pm and Wednesday from 1:00-1:30 pm.
