September 11, 1925 — September 19, 2008

Irene E. Maurer 83, of Dover, Ohio died Friday, September 19, 2008 in her daughter's home lovingly surrounded by her family. The last couple of months, she looked forward to her friends and loved ones visits.

Born September 11, 1925 in Brightwood, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Winifred (Day) McIntire.

Irene was a 68year member of the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia and the Master Builders Sunday school class. She also formerly served the church as historian and deaconess. On behalf of the church, she continually enjoyed sending cards and keeping in contact with members of the church who were facing difficulty through sickness and distress. She will be remembered for her kindness and was a good neighbor and "best friend" to many. She loved her grandchildren and was always attending one of their school activities and sporting events. She was one of Dover High School's biggest fans. She also never missed a birthday where she baked birthday cakes from scratch.

Irene was employed by the former Myers & Rousch Shoe Store at New Philadelphia and the Root Beer Stand where she met her husband, Edward. They married July 25, 1948 and celebrated forty five years of marriage before his passing on September 30, 1993.

She is survived by three daughters Barb (John) Miceli, Patty (Mike) Bott, and Kay (Rick) Dessecker all of Dover and a son, David (Lisa) Maurer of New Philadelphia. She is also survived by ten grandchildren Cory (Brooke) Miceli, Adam Bott, Melissa Bott, Karissa (Chad) Smith, Kristen Dessecker, and Miranda Dessecker all of Dover, Katera (Dan) Welfley of Canton, Jason Maurer and Jesse Maurer both of New Philadelphia, and Samantha Irene Maurer of Columbus; four great grandchildren, Conner, Colton, and Cassie Miceli, and Austin Smith all of Dover.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Doug Maurer, an infant daughter, Carol Jane Maurer, an infant grandson, Michael William Bott, two sisters, Jane Russell and her twin, Eileen Crites and a brother, Adrian McIntire.
