Irma F. Schriever, 80, died peacefully Saturday, January 25, 2003 at South Broadway Nursing Home in New Philadelphia following a brief illness.
She was born January 1, 1923 in Illinois, one of 18 children to the late Louis and Grace Pyle Varadi.
Irma had worked for many years as bookkeeper for the Route 800 Machine Shop, a company that her husband started after his retirement.
Growing up as a farmer�(TM)s daughter in Tuscarawas County, Irma attended many schools in and around Dover, Mineral City and New Cumberland, graduating in 1942 from Mineral City High School.
She was a member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ at Dover.
Irma enjoyed reading, music, gardening and canning. She was loved entertaining friends and family daily, hence her passion for cooking and baking pies. She took great interest in going to auctions and garage sales and looking for pieces to add to her wonderful collection of teapots and buttons.
On July 28, 1942, she married Carl F. Schriever, who survives. Other survivors include: three sons; William “Bill” Schriever of the home, Carl D. Schriever and Kim (Jane) Schriever of Dover, two daughters; Nancy L. Rabinowitz and Marilyn K. Salame both of Dover, six grandchildren; Steve Schriever of Los Angeles, CA, Scott Schriever of Columbus, OH, Wani Rabinowitz of Englewood, NJ, Amanda Rabinowitz, Jessie Schriever and Kara Salame all of Dover, two brothers; Bert (Agnes) Varadi of Michigan and Ed (Kay) Varadi of Mineral City, three sisters; Lillian Abbihl of New Philadelphia, Anna Stull of Zoar and Mary Lee (Joe) Monte of Roswell, a sister-in-law; Helen Varadi of new Philadelphia, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29, at 11:00am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover with Rev. Steve Daniels officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park and a reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call in the funeral home on Tuesday from 6-9pm.
