Isidore Vernizzi

December 17, 1917 — March 24, 2005

Isidore 'Izzy' Vernizzi, 87, of Dover, died Thursday, Mar. 24, 2005, in Hennis Care Centre.

Born Dec. 17, 1917, in St. Ursanne, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Isidore and Emma Vernizzi. In 1923, at the age of five, he immigrated with his
parents to the United States of America. His mother died, and Izzy's father left him in the loving care of William and Emma Huber. Izzy graduated in 1935
from Strasburg High School, where he played the clarinet with the school's band. He then continued his love of music as a member of the Dominic Greco Band.

On May 29, 1941, sixty-four years ago, Izzy married the former E. Rosemary Weinman, who survives. He served honorably with the United States Army during
World War II, occasionally noting to family and friends that he 'protected Arkansas.'

Following the war, Izzy worked as an insurance salesperson, and as a salesperson for the Former Montgomery-Ward Co. of Dover. He retired as a technical analyst
for the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Izzy was the firm, but gentle and fun-loving father of three children, Sue (Larry) Daley of New Philadelphia, Tom (Betsy) Vernizzi of East Louisville, KY, and Lynn (Dale) Vogel of Dover.

His grandchildren have fond memories of Christmas shopping, wiener roasts and tractor rides with Izzy, while his great-grandchildren always entertained him with their youthful exuberance. He liked to fish and would often make up peanut butter sandwiches take the neighbor boys, Jack and Doyle Rausch, and later his sons-in-law, Larry and Dale.

In addition to his loving wife, Rosemary, and his children, Sue, Tom and Lynn, he is survived by seven grandchildren, Tom (Geana) Vogel, Sam (Tiffany Canfield) Vogel, Keith (Wendy) Vogel, Emily Vernizzi, Tom Vernizzi, Joe
Vernizzi, Rachelle Daley and Nicholas 'Nick' Daley; twelve great-grandchildren,
Tyler, Jeff, Trevor, Taylor, Wyatt, Dylan, Bree, Blake, Hunter, Eryn, Keaven and Haley; and a brother, Dale (Betty) Sherretts of FL.

Additionally, Izzy was faithfully cared for by aides, Michelle and Connie, and music therapist, Beth, to whom he responded wholeheartedly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Violette Cerf.

Isidore and Rosemary were faithful members of the Ruslin Hills Church, pastored by Jeff Matthews. Memorial contributions may be made to the church at 5839
Ruslin Hills Rd. N.W., Dover, OH 44622, or to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third St., Dover.

A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, April 9, 2005 in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover. Friends are invited to visit from 11:00 a.m. until 12 noon, when Pastor Jeff Matthews will celebrate Izzy's life with a brief ceremony. Following the service, a light lunch will be served.
