Iva C. Burky

Iva C. Burky, age 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021, in Community Hospice Truman House.

Born July 20, 1940, in East Sparta, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Roselia Yant Watts. Iva married Glenn Burky Sr. on December 17, 1955, and the couple raised two children and shared 60 years of marriage prior to Glenn’s passing on January 3, 2016. She was a homemaker who was also employed by the Lauren Manufacturing Co. in New Philadelphia for some 30 years.

Iva dearly loved her family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a “people person” who easily made friends wherever she went. Iva particularly enjoyed visits to the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and Monday lunches at the Warren Township Community Center. Additionally, she liked to travel and had an appreciation for the outdoors.

Iva is survived by her children, Debbie (Jim) Shear of New Philadelphia, and Glenn (Naomi) Burky Jr. of New Cumberland; her grandchildren, Diana (Matthew) Newton, Amber (Butch) Roup, Jeremy (Ashley) Burky, Tiffany Shear, Ashley (Ryan) Wilson, Russell Shear and Jessy (Derek) Cox; her great-grandchildren, Jordan and Logan Roup, Brogen Wilson, Cadance and Carter Burky, Hailey and Brandon Newton, and Peyton and Piper Cox; her sister, Lois Miller; and her dear friend, Ken Duncan.

Besides her parents, and her husband, Glenn, Iva was preceded in death by her sister, Bernice Sprankle, and her brother, Larry Watts.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Sunday, December 19, 2 - 5 p.m. Iva’s life will be celebrated in a service in the funeral home on Monday, December 20, at 11 a.m.; Rev. Larry G. Stitt will officiate. Burial will follow in New Cumberland Cemetery.
