Izora Grant, age 60, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, June 7, 2016.
Born May 1, 1956, at Waverly, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Fannie Lue Menefield Grant. Izora moved at a young age with her family to Tuscarawas County, and graduated from Claymont High School in 1975. She was employed by the former Ponderosa Restaurant at New Philadelphia, and later by Hennis Care Centre, Dover. Izora was a loving mother and grandmother and was an excellent cook especially of soul food. She was a member of Dover's First Baptist Church.
She will be sadly missed by her family, which includes her sons, Eric Grant and Adrian Roberts, both of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Johnathan Grant, Abriana Ohlinger and Aaliyah Grant; her sister, Annie Pearl Roberts of Dover; her brothers, Edward J. Grant of Uhrichsville, and Willie (Roxanne White) Grant of Fayetteville, Georgia; and her nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Izora was preceded in death by her brother, John Grant Jr. and an infant sister.
A homegoing service will be held Monday, June 13, at 1 p.m., in the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Christopher Lowery officiating. Immediately afterward, there will be a luncheon in the church. Burial will be later in Dover Burial Park. Family and friends are invited to call at the church on Monday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Izora, please visit the Obituaries and Flowers link on the Toland-Herzig website.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests that contributions in Izora's memory be made to the First Baptist Church, 140 Regent St., Dover, Ohio 44622.
