J. Porter Gardner, 95, of Zoar passed away at Aultman Hospital on Friday, June 27, 2014.
Born in Columbus, Ohio on August 18, 1918, he was the son of the late Dr. Jp Sr. and Wyland (Davis) Gardner. Porter graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Mining Engineering. He was a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy during World War II. He served in the South Pacific as a Communications Officer on an Attack Transport.
He retired from Joy Manufacturing. Following his retirement, he became an active member of the Zoar Community Association.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna, whom he celebrated 72 years of marriage on June 6, 2014. He also leaves behind his children; Susan Gardner of Paradise, CA, and Timothy Gardner of Atlanta, GA, along with several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers and a sister precede him in death.
A private graveside service will take place at Zoar Cemetery. A public memorial service will be held at Zoar United Church of Christ on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. John States officiating. The Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover are handling the arrangements.
