Jack W. Wages

Jack W. Wages, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Union Hospital, Dover, following a brief illness.

Born May 15, 1925, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Gertrude Horton Wages. Jack graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1943, and soon afterward entered the United States Army Air Corps, serving in France and the Balkans. In 1948, following his service time, Jack was appointed to the New Philadelphia Fire Department, where he helped protect the lives and property of area residents, a career he loved, for over thirty-two years. He retired in 1980.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia (Jack) Doney of Dover, and Jody (Donald) Rainsberg of Gnadenhutten; a son, Greg (Brenda) Wages of New Philadelphia; seven grandchildren, Jeff and Scott Wages, Jessica, Richard and Robert Doney, Nikki VanFossen Wade, and Meggan Hershberger; four great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Ava Jay, Larson and Hunter; a sister, Doris Loughborough of New Philadelphia; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his dear wife of fifty years, Roberta May Hixson Wages, on August 18, 1994

A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 24, at 11 a.m., in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia, with Dr. Steven R. Bailey of the First United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia, officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
