Jacob I. “Jake” Lengler, age 89, of Columbus, passed away at home Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023.
Born Jul. 14, 1934, in Dover, he was the son of the late Lester and Eleanora Pfeiffer Lengler. Jake graduated from Dover High School, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Baldwin-Wallace College. He was a standout basketball player at both Dover and B-W. Jake was recently inducted into the Dover High School Hall of Fame for his basketball prowess. Additionally, he served honorably in the United States Army. Following his service time, Jake was employed by the Western Electric Company in Columbus, from which he retired.
He liked following all sports, but particularly enjoyed tennis – both as a participant and spectator.
Jake is survived by his sister, Hattie McDonald of Tiffin; his long-time companion, Shirley Mulisano of Columbus; and his niece and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel Hattery and Ida Anderson.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover; Pastor Dotty Hartzell will officiate. Burial will be in Ruslin Hill Cemetery near Dover. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 1 – 1:30 p.m.
