James A. DiGenova, 64, a lifelong resident of Dover died Wednesday morning, August 31, 2011 in Union Hospital at Dover following a brief illness.
Jim operated Yesterday's Memories Antique Shop in Strasburg and was a collector of antiques, guns, and tin soldiers. He was previously a meatcutter and had previously worked at Superior Meats, Strasburg Provision, and Sugardale Meats.
Born September 19, 1946 in Dover, he was the son of the late Coney and Marilyn (McGovern) DiGenova. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Emma Unthank and a niece, Dawn Polilli.
Jim was baptized and confirmed in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW and Bolivar Sportsman's Club. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed playing card games including euchre and joss. In his later years, he loved playing sports games on Wii and mastered the game of bowling. He was an avid spectator of Cleveland sports especially the Browns and Indians.
A graduate of the 1966 class at Dover High School, he played football for the Tornadoes.
Jim is survived by two sons Tom and Ben DiGenova both of Dover; two sisters, Emma (Denny) Polilli of Dover and Nancy DiGenova of Strasburg; two brothers, David DiGenova and Mark (Crystal) DiGenova both of Dover along with numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his loved canine companions Dan, Bob, Pete, Hannah, and Heidi. He was a "big" animal lover.
Fr. Jimmy Hatfield will officiate services on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011 at 1:30pm in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2pm - 6pm.
