James D. "Jim" Owens

James D. “Jim” Owens, age 65, of Dover, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in Union Hospital; Jim had battled COPD and lung cancer.

Born April 7, 1952, in Dennison, he was a son of the late Harry D. and Norma Jean Schwab Owens. Jim graduated from Dover High School in 1970, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves and the Ohio National Guard. He married the former Christine A. Miller on July 5, 1975. Jim owned Owens Implement of Dover, a business founded by his parents in 1962, which he operated with Chris and his two sons.

He was a member of Ruslin Hills Church, Dover, and the Zoar Gun Club. Jim liked going to antique tractor shows, as well as pulling antique tractors, and was a member of the River Valley Antique Tractor Club and the Pioneer Power Association. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren (actually, ANY time spent with his grandchildren was a pleasure for Jim) and riding his UTV with his dogs.

In addition to his wife, Chris, Jim is survived by his sons, Mike (Erika) Owens of Mineral City, and Jason Owens of Dover; his grandchildren, A.J. and Katelyn; his sister, Janet (Jim) Galigher of New Philadelphia; his brother, Bruce (Diana) Owens of Dover; and his nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, on Sunday, May 7, 1 – 3 and 5 – 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 8, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Duane L. Houser officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center on the Boulevard in Dover.
