James D. Shumaker

James D. Shumaker, 77, of Dover, died Wednesday, October 4, 2000 in Aultman Hospital at Canton.

In 1978, He retired from the Dover Light Plant where he had worked for 30 years as a stationary steam engineer. He had been employed with the Dover Machine Company in the years following his retirement.

Born January 4, 1923 at Dover, he was a son of the late Jacob E. & Mary Matchett Shumaker.

Jim was a 1941 graduate of Dover High School and a life long member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. He was honorably discharged from the Army on October 10, 1945 after serving in the 413th Anti-Aircraft Battalion during World War II. He was a life member of the Dover VFW and was a past member of the Dover Elks and Moose Lodges.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Espenschied Shumaker, whom he wed on April 10, 1946.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a brother, William Shumaker
Great granddaughter, Megan McMullen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, at 11:00am in the Toland-Herzig
Funeral Home at Dover with Pastor Jeff Lee officiating. Interment will be in the Dover Burial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (tonight) from 6-8pm.
