James Daniel O'Brien, 77, of Dover passed away peacefully on October 2, 2001 at Aultman Hospital in Canton.
Born February 14, 1924 in Dover he was a son of the late Timothy A. and Edna Booth O'Brien.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He graduated from Dover High School in 1942 and attended Otterbein College for one semester before being called to service in WW II, where he was an Army Tech Sergeant and Medic. He served in the American and European Theater from 1943 to 1946. Upon completion of his service, he attended John Carroll University from 1947 to 1951, and later attended McKinley Law School. He was known by many as the owner and operator of O'Brien's Restaurant and as councilman for Ward 1. He also enjoyed playing golf.
James will be missed by his loving wife of 49 years: Vera ''Alvie'' Lagatta O'Brien of Dover
Son: Tim and Pam O'Brien
Daughter: Maureen O'Brien
Three grandchildren: Randi, Bridget and Riley all of Delaware, Ohio
Many nieces, nephews and brothers and sisters in law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Joe and John O'Brien
Two sisters: Jeanne Sweitzer and Dorothy Breting.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2001 at 10:00 am in the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Dover, where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home at Dover on Friday from 5-8 pm with Rosary services starting at 7:30.
