James E. Hawk

James E. Hawk, 83, of Hennis Care Centre, Dover, and a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2005.

Born Jun. 5, 1922, in New Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Russell and Mary Witwer Hawk. James served honorably in the United States Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired from the former Hercules Motors Co. in Canton in 1986.

James was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia, and was a life member of Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, also of New Philadelphia. He enjoyed collecting miniature automobiles and listening to country music.

Survivors include a son, James R. (Jayne) Hawk of Dover; a daughter, Pam (James) Baughman of Strasburg; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty-nine years, Venetta Briggs Hawk in 1982; a daughter, Sarah Louise Hawk; a son, Ted Hawk; and by a sister, Ann.

James�(TM) life will be celebrated in a service Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia. Elder Glenn R. Carlisle of the Community of Christ, New Philadelphia, will officiate. Burial will be in East Avenue Cemetery, New Philadelphia, where military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Following the committal, a reception will be held in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover.
