James E. VonAllmen, 62, of Akron, Ohio and a former Dover resident passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2006.
Jim retired in 1999 as an employee of East Ohio Gas Company where he worked for 32 years.
Born August 31, 1943 in Dover, he was the son of Roberta Waldron VonAllmen of Dover and the late John W. VonAllmen.
Jim was a 1961 graduate of Dover High School. He served in the US Army having been stationed in Germany.
During his career, Jim was active in numerous community organizations including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was an active member of the Messiah Lutheran Church in Akron and enjoyed the Saturday morning Bible Study and the prayer chain. He was also an Elk having been active in New Phila, Ashtabula, and North Canton. He was a life member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.
Jim enjoyed so much of what life had to offer from golf to fishing and of course his family and friends. He will be remembered as an avid hunter and outdoorsman but more importantly, as a devoted husband, father, son, and brother.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Tope VonAllmen with whom he married on October 9, 1965. Elaine died October 22, 1998 following a loving marriage of 33 years.
In addition to his mother, Jim is survived by his daughter, Tara (Todd) Scott of Strasburg; his sister, Karen (Bobb) Stein of Dover; his brother, David (Linda) VonAllmen of Green; his father in law, Lyle A. Tope of New Philadelphia; his brother in law, Lyle A. (Michelle) Tope II of Dennison; nieces and nephews including Mark, Matt, T.J. Stein, Dana, Justin, and Travis VonAllmen and Amber (Eric) Garner, Abbey Tope, Nicholas and Kristen Schreiner and his canine companion, Hennessey “Pooh”, his chocolate lab and his special aunts, uncles, and cousins who were very dear to him.
In addition to his father and wife, Jim was preceded by his mother in law, Lillian A. Tope and his grandparents, John and Louisa VonAllmen and Tom and Anna Waldron.
A funeral service celebrating Jim�(TM)s life will be held Saturday, April 15, 2006 at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Jeff Hancock and Pastor David Lathrop officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Phila where the Dover VFW will conduct military graveside services. A reception will follow the committal service at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday (today) from 5-8 pm.
