James Edwin “Jim” Herzig, 79, of Dover died on Saturday, May 27, 2017 Park Village Health Care Center following an extended illness.
Born in Dover on December 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Walter and Opal (Blackwell) Herzig. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Dave Herzig.
He was a member of the Dover High School Class of 1957. Jim honorably served our country in the United States Air Force. On May 15, 1965, he married the love of his life, Charlene Aeling.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover and the Dover Knights of Columbus Council 1973. He enjoyed riding his scooter, being outdoors, camping, woodworking, and tinkering around the house. Following his retirement, he was a crossing guard at Dover East Elementary School for many years.
In addition to Charlene, he will be sadly missed by three children; Edward Herzig of Dover, Rebecca (Chris) Sedares of New Philadelphia, and Michael (Laura) Herzig of Dover; three grandchildren, Christian and Sebastian Sedares of New Philadelphia, and Cody Herzig of Dover.
Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 5-7pm. A Christian Wake service will take place Thursday at 6:45pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:30 am with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. A meal will be served directly following the mass at The Family Life Center.
