James Emmett King, 91, of New Philadelphia passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2011 following a period of declining health.
Born on February 4, 1920 at his home in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harold and Anola Hisrich King.
James graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1938. He married his wife of 67 years, Helen Larson, on May 27, 1944.
He retired from Dover Tank & Plate and also worked for Shenango Furnace in Dover, Sparta Ceramics, and was a licensed CPA.
He was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia, where he served as the church treasurer for many years. He was also a 50 year member of the New Philadelphia Masonic Lodge, where he was a Past Patron of the Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine. He served on Board of the Hospice of Tuscarawas County and the Reeves Museum Board. He was also a member of the Ragersville Historical Society, Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and the CPA Society.
He loved his family and cherished the time that he spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by ; son, Lars (Jovan) King of Dover; grandchildren, Missy (Dan) Leone of Dover, Erica King of Dover; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Andrew Goehring of Dover, Ashley, Melissa, and Vanessa Kieffer of Mineral City; son in-law, Willard (Jamie) Kieffer of Mineral City; nephews, Dave King of Florida, and Bob (Madge) King of Sugarcreek.
He is preceded in death by a granddaughter; Lori Kieffer; and two brothers David and Robert King.
A celebration of James's life will take place at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 10:30 am with Rev. Stephen Patrick officiating. Burial will follow at East Avenue Cemetery. Following the service of committal, a meal will be served in the church social hall. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Friday, December 30, 2011 from 6-8 pm. The Emmanual Lutheran Church will conduct at brief service at 5:45 pm.
