James F. “Jim” Marks, age 71, of Dover, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, in his home, following a long illness.
Born November 10, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, he was a son of the late Jack and Betty Ransdale Marks. Jim attended Hollywood High School in Los Angeles (his father was in the military and the family moved often), and was employed by the L & M Oil Company in Magnolia. He later worked for the Ohio Carrier Corporation in Dover until his health no longer permitted him to do so.
Jim married the former Candace “Candy” Gordon on January 15, 1977, who survives. He was a loving husband and father, and was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church. He enjoyed caring for the cats that he owned over the years and playing computer games.
In addition to his wife, Candy, Jim is survived by his daughter, Cassie (Paul) Buckner of Knoxville, Tennessee; his brother, Phil (Brenda) Hunter of Marietta; his many nieces and nephews; his cousins, Chris (Joanne) and Dick (Wendy) Figge and Linda Arnold; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Sue Gordon, Phoebe and Lynn Zehnder and Debbie Rogers.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Hunter; his two nephews; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Gordon.
The family would like to acknowledge Jim’s caregivers, Krista Carl and Debbie Rogers, who were such a great help to him, as well as Community Hospice for their excellent care – Thank You So Very Much.
A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24 at 11 a.m. in the Strasburg United Methodist Church; Pastor Jason Humble will officiate. Following the service, there will a luncheon in the church’s social hall. Family and friends are invited to call at the church on Monday, 10 – 11 a.m. To sign an online guestbook and share a fond memory of Jim, please visit the obituaries link on the Toland-Herzig website.
The family suggests that contributions in Jim’s memory be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
