James G. 'Jim' Fickes, 57, of New Philadelphia, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Wednesday, Mar. 2, 2005, following an apparent heart attack.
Born Feb. 25, 1948, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Glenn E. and Ono May Wiers Fickes. Jim attended New Philadelphia High School and married the former Betty L. Kendle on Jul. 20, 1973. He was formerly employed by Canton Drop Forge, Greif Board of Massillon, and presently employed by Securitas
Security of Akron. Jim was also a long-time employee of the former Naylor Funeral Home of New Philadelphia. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and a good provider.
Jim was a member of the New Life Church of God, Dover, and attended Uhrichsville was a member of the church staff and served as head usher. Additionally, Jim belonged to the Gnadenhutten Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; a daughter, Lori Fickes at home; two sons, Jason Fickes at home, and Ryan Fickes of New Philadelphia; four granddaughters,
Kaitlyn, Madeline, Sarah and Hannah Fickes; a sister, Jean Ann (Paul) Carpenter of Houston, TX; aunt, Jane Steele of Uhrichsville; and several nieces and
nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jane Miller.
Jim's life will be celebrated in a service Monday, Mar. 7, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, 246 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, with Pastor Florence McNutt officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center, 831 Boulevard, Dover. Family and friends are
