James G. (Jerry) “Mousie” Myers, 85, of Dover died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017 in his home following a period of declining health.
James retired in 1984 as Administrative Auditor for the State of Ohio Bureau of Employment following 30 years of service. Following retirement, he was employed by Schwab Industries for 10 years.
Born Oct. 18, 1931 in Dover, he was the son of the late Charles and Margretta (Jones) Myers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters, Clara Lou Semon, Bernice Myers, Marie Orth, Marjorie Arnold, Jean Thompson, Ruth Hofacre, and Mary Fair along with two brothers, John (Betty) Myers and Max Myers.
James was a member of the Church of New Hope in Dover, former Master and member of the Brandywine Grange where he also served as a county deputy. He enjoyed square dancing, exercising with his friends at Silver Sneakers, traveling, and especially spending time with his family.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Josephine “Jo” (Shepler) Myers with whom he married on April 18, 1954; two children, Cindy Jo (John) Dickey of Dover and Timothy J. (Lorie) Myers of Uhrichsville; six grandchildren, Ashley and Emily Dickey, Nicole (Bill) DeLong, Cole (Kali) Myers, Mikala (Nick) Harding, and Kasie Cameron; two sisters, Barbara Krebs of Dover and JoAnne (Fred) Altier of New Philadelphia along with six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017 beginning at 11am in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover with Pastor Dan Legg officiating. Entombment will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Dover Burial Park. A reception will follow in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-7pm. Memorials may be made to the Church of New Hope in Dover, Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, or The Frederick Delphia Music Scholarship Fund in his memory.
