James G. “Jim” Rieger, 74, of Strasburg, Ohio died Thursday evening (August 16, 2007) in his home surrounded by his family.
Jim retired in 1992 from Eaton Corporation in Massillon where he was chief quality control inspector. He was employed by Eaton for thirty eight years.
Born May 26, 1933 in Strasburg, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Haswell Rieger.
He was a member of St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church in Dover and was a longtime member of the former St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Strasburg. He served on the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department for thirty four years. He was an avid Strasburg Tiger Fan and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and enjoyed bowling Wednesday evenings at Kinser Lanes on the Samsa Fabricating team.
Jim is survived by his wife, Corrine Simonetti Rieger with whom he would have celebrated 51 years of marriage on November 24; He is also survived by four daughters, Brenda (Bob) Timmerman of Dover, Yvonne (Matt) Thomas, Marla (Bruce) Metzger, and Jody (Wade) Brock all of Strasburg; nine grandchildren, Eric and Adam Hawk both of Columbus, Drew & Hunter Schneiter, Marcus, Curtis, Lucas, and Nicholas Metzger, and Kylie Decker all of Strasburg; stepgrandchildren, Chelsea and Hillary Timmerman of Newcomerstown, Taylor Brock of Texas and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Marcella 'Sis' Kreis of Strasburg and two brothers, Charles (Helen) Rieger of Alliance and Jack (Pat) Rieger of Atwood Lake;
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Johns and a brother, Bud Rieger.
A Rite of Christian Burial will be held Monday, August 20, 2007 at 10am in the St. Joseph�(TM)s Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. William Arnold officiating. Interment will be in the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery at Strasburg. A reception will follow at the Strasburg Volunteer Fire Department. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-6pm at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover where Rosary services will be held at 6pm. The visitation will conclude with a Fireman's Memorial Service.
