James H. A. Lance, 89, of Strasburg, died Monday, August 13, 2007, in Union Hospital.
Born January 4, 1918 at Wayne County, he was the son of the late John W. & Gladys Hatfield Lance.
For more than 20 years, James worked as a mechanic for Superior Dairy. Prior to his time with the dairy, the former Truck Coal Company at Strasburg employed him.
James was well liked. Over the years he had enjoyed hunting and fishing, and also was a bit of a green thumb, having been active in tending to the family�(TM)s garden.
He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Laura J. (Bercaw) Lance.
Other surviving family members include: a daughter, Pam (Paul) Shonk of New Philadelphia; son Todd Lance of Strasburg and his companion Linda Tate of Dover; four grandchildren, Lori (George) Rennard of Tippecanoe, Lisa (Aaron) Blind, and James and Jessica Lance of Strasburg; three great grandchildren; a brother Bill Lance, and sister Thelma Drayer.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by: two sisters, Betty Lance & Marguerite Johnson; and three brothers, Jack, John, and Charlie 'Gene' Lance.
His life will be celebrated in a public, graveside service, Wednesday at 2:30p.m. in the Grandview Union Cemetery, Strasburg. Friends may call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Strasburg on Wednesday from 1:30- 2:15 p.m.
