James H. Birtcher

James H. Birtcher, 71, of Dover passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2013 in the Community Hospice House.

Born August 28, 1942 in Cleveland he was a son of the late Harry and Mary Jean Powell Birtcher. James was also preceded in death by his son, Marc Birtcher and father and mother in law, "Sharkey" and Jane Kaltenbaugh.

He attended Cambridge City Schools through the 11th grade and graduated from Dover High School in 1960. James worked at Fleming Foods in Navarre, having retired in 2000 after 31 years of service. He was a proud member of the NRA and in his spare time he loved spending time with his grandchildren at his farm in Rush Township.

James is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara Kaltenbaugh Birtcher whom he married on July 15, 1962; son, Kris (Tanja) Birtcher; brother, David Birtcher; grandchildren, Lauren, Kellie, Jack and Lexi all of Dover and Eian, Alec and Adam Birtcher of Scio; cousins, Ellie (Dale) Dougal of Dublin and Dorie (Read) Backus of Sylvania and special friends, Dave and Tom.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover. There will be no public services or calling hours. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of James may do so by visiting the online obituaries and flowers link on the funeral homes website.
