James “Harry” Gibb, 91, of Dover, died Tuesday, Mar. 18, 2003, in Union Hospital.
Born May 9, 1911, in Sunderland, England, he moved with his family at the age of thirteen to Canada, and later to the United States, where he became a citizen. Harry was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry, and two Bronze Stars. Harry retired as a foreman from the Norton Co., Mineral City, in 1976, following thirty-one years of service.
He was a member of St. John�(TM)s United Church of Christ, Dover. In years past, he played the guitar and bass violin in a small orchestra with his sister and brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Alma “Millie” Heston Gibb; a daughter, Margaret Renner of New Philadelphia; three sons, James R. (Sandra) Gibb of Dover, Donald (Nancy) Gibb of New Philadelphia, and Jerry (Deb Sickels) Gibb of New Philadelphia; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Gibb of Pittsboro, NC; a niece, Marsha; and a nephew, Robert Paulun.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Paulun; and by two brothers, Robert and Samuel Gibb.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Mar. 22, 2003, at 1:30 p.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home, Dover, with Rev. Steven Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park, New Philadelphia. Military rites will be conducted by the Dover post of the V.F.W. Following the committal, there will be a reception in the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Visitation will be Friday, Mar. 21, 2003, 5-8 p.m., in the funeral home.
