James H. "Herb" Feutz, age 96, of Dover, passed away Monday, March 7, 2016, in Schoenbrunn Healthcare at New Philadelphia, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
Born February 16, 1920, at Dover, he was a son of the late James O. and Flossie M. Haswell Feutz. Herb graduated from Dover High School, and went on to serve honorably with the United States Army during the Second World War. Herb was with the 34th Infantry Division, which was the first division to enter Europe through Italy. Following his discharge, he was employed by Weaver Motor Co. at New Philadelphia, and then by Warner & Swasey (later Gradall), from which he retired in 1985 after twenty-one years there.
Herb was a member of St. John United Church of Christ at Strasburg, and attended St. Joseph Church at Dover. Some of his favorite pastimes were working in the yard around his home and the restoration of his Model T Ford.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jo Ann Saffell, Peggy Sue Reichman, Ben (Fae) and Greg Feutz, all of Dover, Cheryl Feutz of New Philadelphia, and Ruby Baker of San Antonio, Texas; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Mike, Ron and David Saffell, Amanda, Heath (with whom he was especially close) and Kelly Feutz; his great-great-niece and great-great-nephews, Madeline Moore, Tyler Feutz and Deacon Polen.
In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty-eight years, Erma R. "Dolly" Feutz, in 2000; his sister, Margaret Berlyoung; his brother and sister-in-law, Ben and Nelle Feutz; and his niece, Jean Bushman.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 10, at 11 a.m., in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory at Dover, with Rev. Jason R. Rissler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery, Dover. Following the committal, there will be a luncheon in St. John United Church of Christ, Strasburg.
