James "Jim" Larry Hootman, 79 of New Philadelphia passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015 as a result of injuries sustained from a car accident.
Born on February 12, 1936 in Dover he was the son of the late William Hootman and Elizabeth Riker Carlisle. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Flood.
He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force.
Jim was a professional truck driver. He retired from North Canton Transfer. He also owned the former Lubritorium in New Philadelphia. Jim graduated from Wolverine Trade School in Michigan. He was a very talented mechanic and welder. He spent a lot of his time building all different types of cars including antique cars and race cars. He attended Word of Life Church in New Philadelphia.
Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved his dogs; especially, Maggie Mae.
He will be missed by his wife, Constance "CJ" Hootman, whom he married on November 20, 1999; four children, James A. "Jimmy" (Ann) Hootman, Debbie (Rick) McCoy, John L. Hootman, and Linda (Lee) Harris; three step-children, Cheryl Edwards, Matthew (Mimi) Tristano, and Amanda Miranda; sister in law, Bessie (Bill) Hershler; along with many loving grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 5:00pm with Pastor Bill Harrison and Pastor Lisa Meese officiating. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:30 until the service starts at 5:00. Immediately following the service, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center.
