James L. “Jim” Fondriest, 87, of Dover passed away at Aultman Hospital on Monday, April 26, 2021.
Jim was born in his Dover home on April 10, 1934. He was the son of the late Leo and Mildred (Winkhart) Fondriest. He graduated from St. Joseph High School. On November 19, 1955, he married Shirley Marie Dapoz, who preceded him in death on March 5, 2016 after 59 years of marriage.
Jim retired from the Dover Light & Power where he was a stationary engineer for 39 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and baseball. He took pride in his yard and gardens, which is where he spent a lot of his time. He also enjoyed training dogs throughout the years. Above all, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind his three daughters; Sally (Mike) Franz of San Diego, California, Cindy Margo of Sugarcreek, and Debbie (Dr. Robert) Baumbick of Avon Lake; three sons, Steve (Liz) Fondriest of Beavercreek, Jeff (Chris) and Tom Fondriest, both of Dover; his grandchildren; Michael (Cortney) Franz, Dr. James (Alexandra) Franz, Jason (Cassie) Margo, Jennifer (Casey) Miller, Jamie (Matt) Troyer, Jeffrey (Amanda) Margo, Tyler (RaeAnne) and Trevin (Tiffany) Fondriest, Jessica (Frederick) Cruz, Kimberly (James) Cicero, Nathan, Alyssa and Christin Baumbick, Ryan (Kylie) Fondriest, Lauren (Tyrone) Miller, Sam (Meghan) Fondriest, Jacob Fondriest and Matthew (Madalyn) Fondriest; his 29 great-grandchildren, and was expecting two more; along with his sister in-law, Anna Wise of New Philadelphia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 10:00 am. Burial will follow next to Shirley at St. Joseph Calvary Cemetery in Dover. Friends are invited to call at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, April 29, 2021 from 5-7pm. A Christian Wake service will begin at 6:45.
