James Matthew “Jim” Ress, 89, of Dover passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at Hennis Care Centre in Dover.
Born in Dover on January 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Matthew and Clara Lehart Ress. James graduated from Dover High School. Following graduation, he joined the United States Army and honorably served our country during World War II. He also attended Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia and the Ohio State University, where he was a huge fan of the band.
He retired from Timken Roller Bearing Company after many years of service.
Jim had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping and boating at Atwood Lake. He loved traveling to see new places and to keep in touch with old friends. He enjoyed reading and especially loved aficionados�(TM) of the Civil War. He also had a soft heart for dogs and treated his companions like family.
He was an active member of the First Moravian Church in Dover, where he enjoyed volunteering for many years.
Jim leaves behind a nephew; Matthew Fisher of San Antonio, Texas; niece, Elizabeth Fisher Jones of Dallas, Texas; great nieces and nephews, John of San Francisco, CA, Kris of Memphis, TN, Ashley of Boise, ID, Erin, Meghann, Ress, and Chris all of Dallas, TX.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister; Mary Kathryn Fisher.
A celebration of Jim�(TM)s life will be held at the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory in Dover on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11:00 am with Pastor John Wallace officiating. Following the service, a meal will be served at the Toland-Herzig Monarch Center. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10-11:00am. In honoring Jim�(TM)s wishes, cremation will take place.
